How to use "say_sounds" (for donors and admins)

My post got stale by 5 days so i'll make a new one.

Something apparently went wrong i guess with dreads intro (smack can you note me what the error was i'm quite curious as i didn't stray from my usual pipeline of tasks in recording to make his)

Smack, your talking to the experts here, and just a question about the sounds and what not, IF I remember correctly, mods for games (that include new sounds) ussually take up an ENOURMOUS amount of hd space. So, do the say-sounds and intros work the same way? and when we "download" them, does that take up alot of space for us? Just something I randomly was pondering.

I think right now, the say sounds downloaded from the server only take up about 25MB (generally speaking, less than the size of a map) -- you can check this by going to your TF folder, go to sounds --> critfest --> admin and see how much it takes up......I may be wrong as I am merely estimating at the moment, but the files are generally 300kb each or less....'generally'.....

currently since the plugin uses uncompressed .wavs the largest file being kirbanators intro and the smallest being the sandyvagina sound. If the plugin had better support for mp3 encoding i could reduce the overall size of the the files by 30-40% without much loss of quality. gotta bare in mind a 22050khz 16bit pcm file will sound no different if it was re-encoded to be 64-128kbps bitrate if any change would even be noticed at all.

small example.

alycats intro at 15 seconds long is 653kb in filesize

re-encoded to a 64kbps constant bitrate .mp3 file i reduced its size to 113kb in filesize with hardly little to no change in quality. in fact it sounds better.

The folder where all the sound files are is only 24.5mb about the size of a 3 stage CP map on TF2. so whenever a new player to the server joins. they simply wait as long as it would take to download a new map. which isn't very long unless they have a very very shitty connection. If you can't download 25megs in 30secs - 2 minutes in todays internet there is something horribly wrong with your connection.

I'll look into it. If i can figure out a working workflow in the encoding pipeline after recording and it works. I can start converting all the files. I noticed some say sounds were removed so i will need a list of whats currently in the server.
